The end of this Iranian calendar year (March 21, 2008) will mark the 60 th anniversary of compiling the Mesbahzadeh Calendar. The compilation of the calendar is a noble art which is the legacy of our forefathers. More than a hundred years ago, my father the late Allameh Mesbah began the compilation of this calendar and following his sad demise I took over the responsibility for the compilation. My father and I have been responsible for the uninterrupted annual compilation of this calendar over the past century.

Unfortunately this worthy bequest from world-renowned Iranian scholars such as Omar Khayyam, Ghiyaseddin Jamshid Kashani, Abu Rayhan Birouni, Khwajeh Nasireddin Tousi, Shaykh Baha'ie and other famous luminaries of this ancient discipline has been relegated to the level of forgotten lore. As a result, astronomical tables of planetary movements (z ijat ) and astronomical books of these scholars, the fruit of labour of those great men which have been compiled based on mathematical rules, are only adorning prestigious libraries of our country and those of other countries and the majority of the people are unaware of them.

By the grace of the Almighty, against all odds I have been able to publish this scientific work every year. I have done this without any interruption and without expecting any reward. I have even encouraged my son, Dr Esmail Mesbahzadeh, to learn this discipline and compile the calendar. I hope that the publishing of this calendar on the web will continue with the same style and Iranian researchers, be they inside or outside of the country, will be able to aid and safeguard the continuation and revival of this national and Islamic culture.
